This document, VMware Horizon Client for Mac User Guide, explains how to use VMware Horizon® Client™ for Mac to connect to and use remote desktops and published applications.

Horizon Client communicates with a server, which acts as a broker between the client device and remote desktops and published applications. You enter credentials into Horizon Client, the server authenticates your credentials, and then the server finds the remote desktops and published applications that you are entitled to use.
- VMware Fusion is a software virtualization hypervisor—or virtual machine monitor—developed by VMware for Mac computers. This software tool gives you a virtual machine and allows your Intel-based Mac to run operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Linux alongside its macOS operating system.

VMware Fusion helps to turn your Mac computers compatible to run any Windows like applications like Internet Explorer or Microsoft Office. It is one of the best commercial virtualization app. Running Windows on Mac is only the beginning.
'There is a free player for VMware on Windows, is there a free version as well for mac? If not, any other free alternatives?' VMware Workstation Player, also known as VMware Player is a free desktop virtualization software package used for simultaneously running several operating systems for 64-bit computers having Microsoft Windows or Linux. When you connect to a remote desktop with the VMware Blast display protocol from a Mac client system that has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M graphics card, the desktop stops responding. Workaround: None. This is a third-party issue. VMware InstallBuilder is a development tool for building cross-platform installers for desktop and server software. With InstallBuilder, you can quickly create dynamic, professional installers for Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris and other platforms from a single project file and build environment.

This document assumes that Horizon Client for Mac is already installed and configured on your Mac. For information about installing and configuring Horizon Client for Mac, see the VMware Horizon Client for Mac Installation and Setup Guide document.
Please follow the below instructions to install the VMWare Horizon Client for Mac.
- Download the VMWare Horizon Client installer For Mac OS 10.12 – 10.15 by clicking here.
Mac OS versions older than 10.12 are not supported. - Double click on the VMware Horizon Client.dmg file to begin the install.
- Click “Agree” in the user license agreement window that appears.
- When the VMWare Horizon Client window appears, drag the “VMWare Horizon Client icon to the Applications folder.
- The first time you launch the VMWare Horizon Client, you may see a security popup asking if you want to open the file. Click the “Open” button.
- Follow these linked instructions to log in to VDI with 2-Step Verification (2SV).

VDI requires a modern laptop, PC, or tablet.
In general most laptops that are less than 4 years old will run the VDI client without an issue. More detailed laptop requirements can be found in our student guide.
