Folks, I for one have a very valid, and honest reason for wanting to unpack a game's PAK file. The game is quite new and they provide no keyboard re-mapping functionality yet. However I know that putting a re-map entry into my own local Input.ini file will solve the problem temporarily until they provide this capability in later versions. The PACKAGE file extension was developed by Electronic Arts.Files that contain the.pak file extension are normally compressed archive files. These files are very similar to Zip archive files. The PAK file format is used to compress large files or volumes of files into a single archive folder. Jan 26, 2014 Can you create a.bat file, where when you edit something in your /test assets then you can create a new.pak with just only running the.bat? Thanks for the help anyway! File extension pak is used by some computer games for their resource archives. The.pak files are archives or compressed files, which contains various game files such as graphic files, sprites, game sounds, music, objects and another data, that are required in order to play the game.
Step 1: Double-click the file.
Locate the PAC file icon and double-click it. If you have the right program installed, it should open the file automatically. If it doesn’t, move on to Step 2.
Step 2: Look for another program.
If the PAC file doesn’t open when you double-click it, you probably don’t have the right program on your computer. There are several popular programs that can be used to open a PAC file. Try one of the three most common programs: CrossePAC Compressed Archive, Pacman File, or Sound Blaster Studio II Package.
Step 3: Check the file type.
If none of the above programs will open your PAC file, check the file type to make sure you have a program that can open that type of file. Most PAC files are Web Files, but there’s a chance it might be another type.
You can find this information in the file’s properties. On a Windows computer, just right-click the file and click properties, and look for the file type under “Type of File.” On a Mac computer, right-click the file and click “More info,” and look for the file type under “Kind.”
Step 4: Get help from a developer.
If you can’t figure out how to open a PAC file, a developer can probably tell you how. Find the program you have in the table below and contact the developer of that program.

Windows Applications Manager Added or Changed Package | Microsoft Developer |

Step 5: Find a universal file viewer.
The easiest way to open a PAC file, or any kind of file, is to use a universal file viewer like File Magic (Download). You can use it to open many different file formats. If it’s not compatible, the file will just open in binary.

What is a PAC file?
A PAC file is a configuration file used by web browsers to select an appropriate proxy server. It contains one or more JavaScript functions with one of them named FindProxyForURL, which defines rules for choosing a proxy server based on a given URL. PAC files are used for controlling and load-balancing Internet traffic, especially in corporate environments.
PAC files are enabled in web browsers by entering the PAC file URL in the proxy connection settings, or by using the Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) protocol. When executed, a PAC file returns a string with one or more proxy server URLs. PAC files are typically hosted on a web server and are named proxy.pac.
Since PAC files contain the configuration in plain text. You can use a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit to view or modify the files.
NOTE: The PAC file format was originally released in 1996 for use by Netscape Navigator 2.0.
